training german shepherd

Is there a place or way that I can get my German Shepherd trained like a guard dog? Like when I’m gone it will guard and attack people that come in unless I say so. Can I get it trained so it will attack on command? My dog is 1 year old and I want to make it really obediant. Also I want to train it also as my hunting companion.

yes you can make it look like your getting attacked and see if your dog comes and attack-es the person or let the dog get the people you know scent’s so if someone without that sent comes in the house your dog will attack them

        if you train him.

NO. You are not a trained professional

A Schutzhund trainer can train a “Bark and Alert” dog, but not for a non-police dog to attack random people.

They aren’t stupid. They know the liability.

        Don’t get a dog.

Unless you buy a dog from working lines and pay a trainer to train it or buy one already trained, this is a really bad idea and legal liability. Guard dogs must be of the correct temperament and most dogs, no matter the breed, simply don’t qualify, plus if you’re asking this Q you don’t have the experience to handle a dog like that. You’d be better off just letting the dog go on it’s own natural instinct to protect, obedience train, and buy an alarm sytem. After all this is the 21st century!

Sounds nifty - speak to a lawyer as to how much that’ll cost you the first time it happens.

Better to find a good trainer who will train your dog in obedience, and that will be sufficient. Believe me, there are very few people who will enter a house without being accompanied by you if they see a German Shepherd in it, even if the dog has no teeth and can hardly move.

no, not unless you invest alot of time and money then you run into the risk of not having a life to protect you from, weight your options or just enjoy your Dog for what it is and the rest will present itself later on

You can, I believe that’s one of the things German Shepperd excel in. If you want, you can even train it to track you and your family. Find a book on it, or join a class.

of course you can ! you can train your dog or you can go to an obedience training thing .. all you need is patience! hope this helps ! ^^

Probably—you’ll need to have it assessed first by someone who knows something about police dogs.

You’ll need to undergo serious training yourself—doing anything for the next 5 months? Then training the dog should only take a year or two—how much obedience training does the dog have now?

You know the dog should already be able to heel, stay, drop things on command, etc before you can even think about advanced training, right?

You’ll also need to take out special insurance on the dog—call your insurance agent about that. Shouldn’t cost more than an extra few thousand dollars a year.

What kind of hunting do you want to do? Retrieve game? track?

At a glance I would say training your dog will take a couple of years, thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours–still interested? Anything short of that and you are asking for trouble and risking your pet.

If you want obedience, why not looking into competitive obedience? get the manners stuff out of the way and teach him to retrieve over obstacles and find things by scent. Or learn how to track???

BTW Getting a dog to attack on command isn’t the hard part of police dog work—it is making sure you have enough control over the dog so he lets GO.

You should check out Schutzhund training. Go to. He is a 2 time World Schutzhund champion. Schutzhund covers more than protection. It covers 3 aspects, obedience, tracking and protection.
If your dog does not have a very high “drive” it may not be very good at the protection aspect.
Then find a local schutzhund club and go watch a training session to see if it is what you want to do.

Hi! It is very dangerous to train your pet dog to bite people.Usually having a big dog like that would deter people from entering your house.German Shepherds are naturally protective so I am sure if someone was attacking you your dog would do everything to get that person away from you. If you must train your dog that way I would look online for places you can send it. But I would suggest just taking your dog to a good obedience class that is run by someone with years of experience in dog training and German Shepherds. Good Luck.
