chihuahua clothes

I have a 3lb chihuahua who obviously gets cold. Even In air conditioning or even in the winter when the house is heated sometimes she needs a little more. What is so wrong with putting her in a little hoodie? Why does everyone think dressing your dog is super evil? She doesnt mind, she loves it!

  • Life is Tough says:

it’s a completely different story when someone is dressing their dog purely for entertainment, instead of for the dog’s wellbeing. you’re dressing her to keep her warm, which is fine.

I don’t think it’s horrible! I have the same situation with my shaved Shih Tzu. (She had mats.)

So, I put a little sweater on her for the day because she loves going outside, and sometimes it’s 20 degrees!

I see nothing wrong with it.

    It’s also cute!

Before having a small dog I thought dressing a dog was ridiculous but now I dress my dog all the time. I even by children clothes (much cheaper!) I have 12 lb rat terrier and chihuahua mix. They even have back packs when we go to the arboretum.

I don’t think it is wrong. As long as it isn’t hot.
Domestic dogs aren’t made like wild animals. They aren’t built to survive in the extreme temperatures. I have put a sweater on my boxer before because it gets to sub zeros where I live and she has hardly any fat and very thin hair. There was no way she wasn’t freezing! It would be like me going outside in the freezing cold naked. LOL…..

I don’t think it’s “evil”. I think that dressing them up in ballerina clothes and Juicy Jumpsuits is stupid.

My dog gets cold, too. But, she’s in clothes that keep her warm, not clothes that make her look like a princess.

I also realize that there are much worse things than making a dog look like a superstar, so while I think it’s lame, I’m happy that their dog makes them happy.

i don’t have a problem at all with it. and i’m with the if it’s cold and the dog needs it, putting a little coat on it. what i’m against is the dogs in strollers, backpacks and purses. they have 4 legs for a reason. many get along just fine even on 3 legs. they are not a fashion accessory.

but if you want to put clothes on your dog, then go for it. who cares what others think.

my personal thoughts (but i have large dogs) is i don’t want to see my dogs in clothes for the same reason they don’t want to see me naked. it’s not right for them or me, lol.

my main problem is today i went to buy my dog a new leash and collar. there was only half an aisle at petsmart for these ancient items. all i wanted was a buckle collar, and a new leather traffic leash (other dog dinosaurs like me will know what i’m talking about, it’s a leash that’s only about 2-3 ft long) why because my dog heels and doesn’t need 25ft of retraction no one knows how to use properly anyway. but all i could find was a harley 4ft leash and buckle collar. now if i’d wanted to buy my dog a bathrobe and slippers i would have had 2 sides to an aisle to choose from. THAT IS NUTS!

i think it is ok for a coat when it is cold. but going all out i think is wrong. i mean it is a dog not a person. but hey its your dog do what you want. who cares what people think?

  • Karla says:

idk people are weird i think doggy clothes is cute.

  • vbell says:

It may seems silly to them!? Or not necessary!?
But I love to dress up my chihuahua puppy…and the boots…and the rain coat!!!

  • Alexzander The Great says:

Dogs are not humans they are animals.

  • George N says:

There’s nothing wrong with it, as long as it is done for the comfort of the dog. In your particular case a Chihuahua does need protection from the cold.

I think where people get upset is when a dog is dressed as a fashion accessory or too cutesy with no apparent benefit to the dog.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with you and your dog wearing matching outfits, but it does make people question your priorities.

    Its different!
Celebes dress their dogs to be cute and a fashion statement.
Like Paris Hilton she doesn’t care about her dogs, when they grown up and not her arm candy anymore she keeps the animal at home and goes and buys and dresses up another puppy.
    Thats horrible.
But most good owners just dress their dogs because, the dog has short hair or gets clod easily.
I put sweaters on my short haired dogs and thats okay, but unnecessary clothing for dogs is horrible!
Dogs and puppy are to be loved and cared for, not dressed up and carried to be shown off as a rick person!

  • Steve5001 says:

Dressing up a dog is often considered a fashion statement, and a ridiculous one at that. Since dogs don’t exactly appreciate or care about clothing, it’s considered a frivolity. If your dog is genuinely in need of a sweater though, I wouldn’t worry too much about what others think.

  • Ronina713 says:

Who cares what others think! I have a chi myself and she wears a hoodie sometimes. Obviously not everyone thinks that it is terrible that’s why they sell clothes for dogs.

  • D girl says:

Theres a diffrance some people probably don’t understand that its for there well being. Sometimes when people say that they want to know were they can find a place that sells doggy clothes people missunderstand. although, people do get them clothes for entatainment. some people think its cruel thats why they say that stuff . I personaly do too but just remember everyone, dogs aren’t toys there animals, don’t treat them as if you would a doll by puttin on fairy wings and stuff.but I’m not sayin you do that I’m just sayin other people do.so just remember.!

Everyone has an opinion. All of my dogs have worn clothes during cold or rainy weather. Actually, they were always glad to be warmed up by a cozy sweater and welcomed a raincoat when they needed to go outside. Personally, I think that it would be wrong not to make your dog comfortable. Little dogs cannot tolerate the cold. You are doing the right thing.

  • Lori !!! says:

sum ppl think that dogs are made with fur so they can keep warm for themselves. sum dogs like chihiahuas and cavaliers need others ways to keep warm whether it’s cuddling up or having a jacket as long as she’s happy and isnt affected by the jacket being on you should let her wear it :)

  • Sweet P says:

I have a min. dachshund and I occasionally dress him up for pictures only and when it’s cold outside…so I guess it’s alright as long as the clothing doesn’t impair their mobility.

  • Kah Yee says:

I don’t think dogs who wear clothes is wrong. They look cute on it. But it is quite expensive to buy the clothes for them. It si not wrong. Like High School Musical 2, Ashley Tisdale plays Sharpay Evans dress the dog really cute!

  • ಌ DP says:

Cause if Dogs were meant to wear clothes, they would have been born with a Mastercard in their hand.. They are born with a coat that is meant to keep them warm.. They don’t need to wear clothes.

  • Red Rover says:

To make their dog look pretty or for entertainment, I don’t like it.
But dogs that are cold, or a dog like yours, should wear clothes. I’m okay with that. Giving your dog a sweater when it’s freezing is perfectly fine. I don’t see anything wrong with it.

  • ♥Friends with Everyone♥ says:

I don’t think that the reason why you dress your dog counts as:
“everyone think dressing your dog is super evil”
Its understandable that you want your dog to be nice and warm.
Its because of outfits like these in the photos below that are why many of us say that its wrong.

  • Jenny T says:

I don’t think dressing your dog is evil. It is quite natural that the small sized dog needs to wear clothes to keep them warm. I have a Pekingese and I make her sweaters myself. She feels warm and never gets cold in winter any more. She just loves being dressed. And sometimes, I buy her some dog clothes from dog store.

  • 2Westies says:

I don’t think it’s wrong or evil, I just wouldn’t do it myself. You don’t need anyones approval to do it, it’s your dog.
